We are proud to offer locally bred and raised beef to our community in the form of whole, half, and quarter steers. All information on our beef can be found in the FAQ below.
Our steers are born on our farm, are handled extensively during their time with us, and stay on our
farm until their time for processing. The steers will stay with their mothers until 6 months old,
consuming a combination of milk, commodity feed, grass, and hay. At 6 months old, the steers are
weaned, and are raised on primarily grass and hay, with grain (and the occasional cow treat) for
supplement. Once the steers are within three months of being processed, they are kept on grass and
hay, but their feed volume increases to ensure they are at an optimal weight for processing. Corn is also added to their diet at this time to promote marbling.
Our steers are harvested at 1000-1100 lbs, which usually yields a hanging carcass weight of
approximately 650 lbs. We sell our beef per pound of hanging weight, and sell either whole and
half steers. This amount is paid directly to Palmetto Springs Cattle Co. in Hopkins, covers the cost of
raising and finishing the steer, and is due at the time of processing (when we find out the actual hanging weight). The price per pound for Summer 2024 orders is $4.50.
Estimated half steer price = $4.50 x 325 = 1462.50
Estimated whole steer price = $4.50 x 650 = 2925
Processing fees are paid directly to Palmetto Fresh Meat in Aynor, and cover the cost of processing,
custom cutting, and packaging the steer. Actual processing fees may vary, depending on the cuts chosen and packaging requested. The Summer 2024 cost per pound for processing is $1.30, plus a harvesting fee of $130 per whole steer.
Estimated half steer processing fees = $1.30 x 325 = $422.50 + 65 = $487.50
Estimated whole steer processing fees = $1.30 x 650 = $845 + 130 = $975
Therefore, you can anticipate the total investment for a half steer to be approximately $1950, and the investment for a whole steer to be approximately $3900.
That is up to you! We will provide you with Palmetto Fresh Meat's cut sheet, where you will be able

Yes! We have recently begun accepting orders for quarter steers. The estimated investment for a quarter steer is approximately $1025 ($975 plus an additional $50 packaging fee from the processor).
